Part 1: Setting Up Your Blog
by Barry Smart
The First of a 10 Part Blogging Lesson.
Blogging is a lucrative source of profit its easy to set up your blog. Imagine a life where you are paid to write on stuff that interests you, whenever you want, wherever you are. The mere flexibility of blogging makes it easy for you to just kick back, relax and go on a vacation whenever you feel like it.
In this article, we are going to look into the profitability of a blog and set up a blog of our own at no cost! Interested? Read on!
First, we need to obtain a blog. There are several options – host a blog on your own domain or get a free blog. For starters, let’s talk about the free blogs. You can obtain a free blog at blogger.com or the newer (and better!) wordpress.com. If you are a techie, you must have heard of Wordpress, a free blog engine that is robust and infinitely expandable.
Blogger.com is actually owned by Google, so it will be detected on Google’s radar faster and you will be indexed faster. Wordpress.com, however, is a relatively new option so I have no comparison on the speed of getting indexed by search engines. However, Wordpress is better in the sense that it has more advanced features such as Trackbacks and Categories. You can also manage your sidebar links more efficiently (more about this later).
Get a free blog at either Blogger.com (http://www.blogger.com/signup.g) or Wordpress (http://wordpress.com/signup/). Then, familiarize yourself by posting your first post on your blog and tinkering around with the options and templates.
Here are a few common “blog-related” words to help you out:
1) Permalink – Permalink stands for permanent link, which is a URL (uniform resource locator) that leads to an individual post that you make in your blog.
2) Trackback – When you post about someone else’s blog post elsewhere, your post will show up in their “trackback” section. This feature, however, is not available with a Blogger.com account.
3) Pinging – Blogging seems to be paired with pinging almost every time either one is mentioned nowadays. Pinging is actually the action where a certain aggregator is notified whenever your blog is updated, so that the aggregator may show the newest post of your blog on their website. This is a useful way to gaining traffic, which we shall discuss later.
For now, I shall leave you testing out your new blog and the features that come included with it. In the next articles, we shall discuss the many ways we can gain profit from a blog, as well as tips on how to write posts that keep visitors glued and keep coming back for more!

I’ve gotten so many good ideas from everyone. This blog is a Godsend! Thanks to all! moneyonline
is there a part here on how to use blogger blogs and tweaking it? thanks.
This is really cool. I was also advised that Drupal is a good system to use… is this right? I thought Drupal was a pure CMS.
Being new to the blogging concept this post and it’s follow ups are a great help to me and many others I’m sure. Thanks
I like to learn more about setting up a blogger blog and tweaking it as well.
Great post. I’m glad people write these brilliant informative posts. WordPress is great for a new business to set up and get online, something not often recommended to new startups – it’s great that they can use resources like this to make the most of their blog.
Blogging is giving a big help to everyone when making money online or when online marketing advertising. This blog helps a lot of new people out there to have an idea of what blogging is all about.
Excellent series of articles, thank you very much. Wordpress makes it easy to set up any type of webpage without knowing much about html.
Wordpress is pretty powerful, but there are still a few features that blogger has that WP should. The list is growing shorter every update though.
I personally think it is better to host a blog on your own domain. That way you have full control over it’s future and you can present it in anyway you like – As well as modify the script to suit your own needs.

This is great info, because I want to start my own home business.
Thanks
This is a very helpful article. I am just starting to use blogs to promote my site. I’ve started with my blogger account, but I’m planning to use Wordpress as well.
I personally think that Hostgator is the best place to host your website. For 8-10 bucks you can host unlimited domains, they have 24 hour support, and have a really easy C-Panel to work from. Wordpress works great with it and it has a Fantastico De Luxe icon which make things EXTREMELY easy.
Great information thanks heaps
Thanks for sharing. Now i have already used blogger as my blog.
