Moms: How to Find Recipes for Your Blog

by Arika Lewis

If you’re like many mom bloggers, you may run out of things to talk about on occasion. Or maybe you just get tired and don’t feel like chatting some days, but you know you need an active blog if you’re going to make money — and many bloggers rely on their blog income to feed their families. So, how do you attract more readers and the search engines to your blog on a daily basis? Easy! Add a recipe of the day to keep your blog fresh and tasty. But, where do you find recipes that you can use? Before I tell you the answer, let’s get the legal stuff out of the way.

To keep from breaking the copyright laws and getting yourself in a bit of trouble, you can not just copy and paste recipes or type them in. They are not public domain. Both collections of recipes and recipe instructions may be copyrighted. I recommend that you search google for “recipe copyright” to read the full scoop. But suffice it to say, you can’t just use other people’s recipes legally. You have to use other methods.

Now, let’s talk about 4 ways to find recipes that can be used on your mom blog.

Your Recipes

Do you have recipes that you make for your family? It could be meatloaf with a special ingredient or salsa with a twist. Take a look at all of the meals that you have personally invented (or altered).

If so, get them on your computer and use them on your blog.

Friends & Family

Does your mother have a special chili recipe that everyone loves? Ooh, and that spicy dip that your sister always brings to football parties.

Start passing out blank recipe cards around the Thanksgiving dinner table to collect all of your family recipes. Then, hit up your co-workers and friends.

Find a Ghostwriter

The second way to get recipes for your blog is to hire a writer. You can usually find a ghostwriter who will create recipes for your blog. If you don’t want to look for a ghostwriter, hit up the local culinary school and see if you can find a foodie who is looking to make some money on the side. Hire that person to type in his/her favorite recipes and you’ll be set.

PLR Recipes

The fourth (and my personal favorite) way to get recipes for your blog is to purchase PLR recipes. The great thing about PLR recipes is:

  • You aren’t stuck coming up with all of the recipes yourself.
  • You don’t have to pay someone else to write them for you.
  • You can edit the recipes as you wish or leave them just like they are.
  • You can reuse the recipes on multiple blogs.
  • You can do almost anything with them, even create your own cookbook that you can sell.
  • You can get a lot of PLR recipes for cheap. Some PLR sites sell them for less than a dollar each.
  • Of course, every PLR site has its own rules so be sure to read them before you buy.

One last tip:

  • For best results, edit your PLR recipes to personalize them.

An easy way to do this is:

  • Change the directions slightly.
  • Make the title sound more interesting.
  • Give the reader some additional tips.
  • Maybe a favorite side disk or a way to speed up the preparation.

You now know just how simple it is to add a “recipe of the day” to your blog. I hope you get started right away so your blog bring in some hungry readers.
