The biggest challenge every single website owner has, including me, is getting traffic to a web site. Just like anything, advertising, google ad words, article marketing it takes constant work to achieve the results you want and in this case, that would be to maintain a top search engine ranking.

You probably already know that the majority of people will not go past the first page of the search engine results and even less people will go past the top 30 results. Therefore, your challenge is getting your website listed on the first page of the search engines for the keywords relating to your site.

Black hat techniques are a sort of illegal SEO methods to earn popularity, rank, and top position in the seach engines. If you’re caught committing these acts, the Google ‘police’ will ban you from the rankings, period.

1. Hidden Text And Links. As the term suggests keywords and keyword phrases are hidden on the page. Usually this is done by having the text the same color as the page color.

Not only Google but the other search engines have the ability to recognize that white text is being displayed on a white background or black text on a black background and so on.

2. Cloaking is a bait-and-switch method of showing search engines one thing and visitors another. It’s a trick to turn visitors into malware victims by luring traffic in with false advertising. Be careful not to do this. This is another factor that can get you dropped instantly once detected.

3. Link farms consist of one page full of links irrelevant to your website. Google hates webmasters that build artificial popularity by building a page with links to high traffic sites. Make ethical exchanges; exchange links with websites relevant to your business to earn the proper respect.

The big problem with this is that you are artificially boosting the popularity of your site. So if you have a site about web hosting in Mexico and most of your links have nothing to do with web hosting in Mexico you will not receive a better ranking. In fact anyone using this type of linking will be penalized. Either your site will get dropped down in the search engines listing or you will be banned all together.

4. Duplicate content is content shown on page after page after page on multiple websites. Please play by the rules. Search engines rank original content because it stands out. Duplicate content is indexed once and the other articles are ignored. DO not waste your time or money in paying for this.

5. Keyword stuffing is the worst part of SEO copywriting. Many web site owners misunderstand the purpose of keywords. Use keywords when they are needed – do not overdo it because you will get banned (again). Build your content in the search engines by writing naturally to attract the indexes.

6. Duplicate sites consist of copying one website and developing multiple sites with the same exact content under different domains. Write original content that reflects your website domains, industry, and business. Stay on track to dominate your niche; it pays to do the right thing instead of getting banned from search engines.
