Profitable Blogging Makes Sense
I just saw an article that just highlighted the need for an online business (profitable blogging, for one). It’s about how workers are being forced to take unpaid days off during the year to save company money.
You can read the full article here.
But in essence, some companies and government entities are requiring employees to take unpaid leave as a way to help prevent layoffs.
What Does it Mean to You?
If you’re in a situation where you need all your money to pay bills, taking unpaid time can really hurt. The article went on to say that people could find other means of adding money to the household.
One mentioned was turning a hobby into a business. The other was to create an online business. And of course a third would be to get a second job.
In general, creating an online business, powered by affiliate programs or online sales, tends to be the least expensive way to go. That is, assuming you don’t overspend for web hosting or domain names. You can take online credit card payments via PayPal or Google Checkout for no up-front costs; you are charged only when you sell something.
And naturally, there’s always eBay for selling things you don’t need or no longer use. Just be aware that not all items are worth much money. Don’t count on selling your old VHS video collection!
Start Now, Not Later
Now here’s the catch. For the most part, aside from selling on eBay, it takes time to get your internet business up and getting targeted traffic. It does not happen overnight, and I want to emphasize that.
So by starting now, you’re working towards having a second income (or even a primary income) should either a layoff occur or you are forced to take unpaid days.
Yes, it’s extra work creating an online business with a profitable blog. Yes it’s time that you could be spent relaxing or parked in front of the TV. But consider this:
If you’re laid off, you’ll have entirely too much free time and no income.
Aren’t a few hours now worth having another source of income should the unthinkable happen?
